One of the great things about our country is that instead of sentencing a child to do jail or prison time, we have treatment facilities to help them get away from a life of crime.

When we think about kids going to prison or jail, it can make our stomach quake. Located at 1118 South Sate Road 25 in Logansport, In, there is the Logansport Juvenile Treatment Unit which helps get juveniles the help they need before they get prison time.

About the Facility

Because of an increase in juvenile criminal acts, the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility Treatment Unit needed to be opened. The facility originally began its existence after three vacant buildings of the State Hospital had a rising population.

Currently, the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility houses male juveniles from the age of 12 to 18 at all risk levels. These juveniles must meet minimum treatment, custody, and educational goals within each growth level in order to progress through the program.

Visiting a Juvenile

Visiting juveniles at the Logansport Juvenile Correction Facility requires a case by case approval. The facility wants to make sure that visiting is in the child’s best interest before that is approved. If visitation is approved, the visiting schedule is as follows:

• Monday through Friday from 6:15 pm to 8:15 pm.
• Saturdays, Sundays, and state recognized holidays from 8:00am to 10:00am & 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

However, if a parent is unable to visit during the scheduled times, they may call the facility to speak with the child’s counselor who can make arrangements for a special visit. The call to the counselor will need to be made 24-hours before your anticipated visit.

Sending Mail

You can send written letters to the juvenile, but keep in mind that therapists and counselors will read all incoming mail first. This is so they can be sure nothing is getting into the facility that could harm the person receiving the mail or anyone else in the facility. Here’s how you should address your mail:
