Harrison County Jail in Corydon, IN serves Harrison County and the nearby towns. Inmates from municipalities, the US Marshal’s Service, the Lawrence Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up are taken to the Harrison County Jail as well.
The Harrison County Jail added 1 additional bunk to each of our 5 intake holding cells in booking and 2 additional bunks in each dorm area. Based on the addition of the new beds, our rated capacity increased from 160 to 175.
The Harrison County Jail currently has 159 general population beds (some can be used for special housing including administrative/disciplinary segregation or Protective Custody), 13 fixed beds in intake holding, 1 medical isolation cell, 1 padded cell, and 1 large intake holding cell for intoxicated or overflow inmates. Out of the 175-bed capacity, 28 of these beds can be occupied by the female population.
When an inmate first arrives at the Harrison County Jail they are taken to the intake where they are held in a large holding cell with other inmates. This is where inmates are highly monitored. Inmates that are violent and cannot control themselves are segregated.
The Harrison County Jail is managed locally by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and currently staffed with the following:
