The Dearborn County Jail, which is located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana opened in 1990. This jail is a 200+ bed facility that also accommodates the Dearborn Sheriff’s Department. The jail houses male and female inmates who are 17 years old and above who have been arrested by all Dearborn County law enforcement agencies or surrounding areas. Jon Winkler is the current jail commander at Dearborn County Jail.
The Dearborn County Jail has 24-hour-a-day surveillance cameras that surveys the inside and outside of this facility. There is also an attached sally port where inmates are unloaded from vehicles. The sally port is completely secure and keeps inmates from trying to escape while being brought into the jail.
The Dearborn County Jail is equipped with computers and other modern-day equipment in order to keep the facility an up-to-date law enforcement building.
Inmates are housed in different areas depending on their charges, conviction, risk assessment, and behavior. There are separate “pods” that divide up the jail. Each pod contains individual cells, a common area, and a recreation area. Two to three inmates sleep in one cell. The common area has a table where inmates can play cards or checkers. Inmates are allowed one hour of outdoor recreation time a day.
