Blackford County Jail is a medium security detention center for male inmates that is overseen by the Blackford County Sheriff’s Department. This facility holds both male and female inmates and serves Blackford County as well as the towns that are nearby. The Blackford County Jail also accepts inmates from municipalities, the US Marshal’s Service and the Hartford City Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

When an inmate is first arrested and taken to the Blackford County Jail they are taken to the intake where they are under heightened observation in a large holding cell with other inmates. Inmates that are violent and can’t control themselves are segregated.

There are inmates that are released after getting bailed out, are placed under supervision by a probation agency, some are released to a pretrial services caseload, or are released on their own understanding with an arrangement to appear in court.
