Indiana Women’s Prison

Most facilities will keep male and female offenders segregated. This is to keep down violence, prevent rape, and maintain a balance within the facility. Because they keep male and female separate, we do have an Indiana Women’s Prison, or a State prison for women. Female prisons work a little differently than male prisons.

Here’s what you need to know:

About Indiana Women’s Prison

This prison is a maximum security prison which was the first adult facility for females in the entire world. The goal of this facility is to prepare the ladies to re-enter the community with more confidence, more skills, and a better outlook on life than when they arrived.

Although it used to be located in the suburban areas, the Indiana Women’s Prison is now located at 2596 Girls School Road in Indianapolis, IN.

Visitation

Visitation is permitted at this facility, but under strict guidelines. You will need to review and sign the following information before you will be allowed to visit:

Be sure to review all information for your language. If you wish to visit an offender, you will need to call the facility at (317) 244-3387 to get more information.

Visitation Hours

Visitation is different each day of the week to accommodate as many people as possible. Here are the visiting hours:

  • Monday: 6:30am to 11:00am & 1130am to 5:30pm
  • Tuesday: No visitation
  • Wednesday: 6:30am to 5:30pm
  • Thursday: 6:30am to 5:30pm
  • Friday: 6:30am to 5:30pm
  • Saturday: 6:30am to 5:30pm
  • Sunday: 6:30am to 5:30pm

Sending Mail

It is encouraged to send mail to offenders. This helps them get through the day to day functions and gives them something to look forward to in the outside world. Because the Indiana Women’s Prison is just one facility within the Indiana Department of Corrections, you will need to do an inmate search to find the offender’s DOC number and facility location.

Here is an example of a properly addressed envelope.

Address both the letter and envelope as follows:
Offender name, DOC#
Facility name
Street Address or PO Box
City, IN ZIP code

Staying in Contact

You will be able to stay in contact with an inmate through phone calls as well. You can make sure an inmate has money to call you in several ways:

  • Put money on their commissary account using JPay
  • Sign up for an account with ConnectNetwork.com
  • Allow the inmate to continue calling collect.

If you have any further questions or concerns, you can contact the prison directly at (317) 244-3387.
