Make sure to include your return address before sending your letters. For safety reasons all mail gets inspected before it gets handed out to the inmates. All mail will be sent back to the sender or thrown out if it does not pass inspection.

Phone calls

The Essex County Women in Transition contracts with Global Tel Link also referred to as GTL for short for there telephone services. In order for an inmate to make phone calls, you will need to fund their phone account.

By either using the kiosk at the jail lobby, over the phone, on the internet or by mail you are able to fund an inmate's account.

Email

Inmates at the Essex County Women in Transition do not have a way to get onto the internet however, you can send each other messages if their JPay account is funded. It's basically the same as traditional email and so much faster than traditional mail.  

There is no fee for family and friends to use the JPay service, however, the inmates are charged to use this service.    

Visiting Rules

Inmates at the Essex County Women in Transition are allowed to get visitors. There is an updated visitation schedule that can be picked up in the jail lobby.

Inmates are allowed to have 2 adult visitors at a time. Make sure to leave all your personal belongings in your vehicle. Personal belongings are not allowed in the visitation area.  

At the Essex County Women in Transition there is a strict dress code that must be followed or you will not be permitted in the visitation area. Dress code rules consist of: No tank tops, no revealing clothing, no miniskirts, no swimwear and no pajamas. Dress code must be kept to business casual.

You will not be allowed in the visitation area if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.   

Minors under the age of 17, will need to stay with their legal guardian. You will be asked to leave if children are acting up or behave in a negative way.

Visiting schedules are dependent on what housing unit they are located in.
