Sending a Mail/Care Package

The Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center inmates are allowed to get written letters in the mail from their family and friends. For safety reasons all letters sent to the jail are examined be the jail employees. The letters will get passed out to the inmates after the jail employees check them.

There are a number of items you are not allowed to sent when sending things to the prison along with your letters. You are not allowed to send the items listed below:

•    Ribbons

•    Glitter

•    Confetti

•    Perfume

•    Envelopes

•    Pencils

•    Pens

•    Writing Paper

•    Stamps

•    Music Cards

•    Lipstick/Lip Gloss/Chapstick

•    No photographs larger than 5x7”

Inmates in the Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center are allowed to get books, newspaper, and magazines sent to them. All books, newspaper, and magazines will need to be sent straight from the publisher or the bookstore to the jail. You are allowed to have these items sent from Amazon. All books that are sent to the jail will need to be new and paperback. All used and hardcover books are not allowed. All used and hardcover books that are sent, will get sent back to sender. For each package, there is a limit of 4 items

Sending Money

The Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center inmates will need funds in order to make purchases from the commissary and to make phone calls to family and friends.   

There are several different ways you can transfer money into an inmates account.

Between the hours of 8:45 am to 8:45 pm, any day of the week the funds can be dropped off in person to fund an inmate's account.

Phone calls

Inmates at the Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center are allowed to make phone calls to their family and friends. Inmates have a limit of 15-minute phone calls. The call will be terminated after the 15 minutes is over.

Visiting Rules

The Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center only allows video visits, which are non-contact visits. You and the inmate will only be able to see each other on a computer screen. You and the inmate will not be allowed to sit together, see each other behind glass, or anything like that. Only non-contact are permitted. No other visits are allowed.

Three visitations each calendar week are permitted for the inmates. All visitations are recorded and monitored.

You will need to make an appointment in order to visit an inmate. Make sure to call and schedule a visitation appointment at least 24 hours in advance at (407) 836-8061

You will need to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visitation appointment. Your driver’s license, passport, or your state identification card will need to be presented before you will be allowed to visit.
