Jefferson County Jail is located in Madison, IN and managed by the Jefferson County Jail. The Jefferson County Sheriffs Office Jail Division has 5 part-time and 22 full-time employees. Anytime an individual is arrested in Jefferson County that person is taken to the Jefferson County Jail for incarceration and held in a large holding cell with other inmates. This is where the inmates are highly monitored at the intake. Those that are violent and crazy are segregated.
The current facility was renovated in the year of 2005 and opened for business in 2006. This facility currently has 109 beds separated into 7 housing units. Inmates held in the jail range from those charged with offenses such as shoplifting and public intoxication to offenses of rape, burglary, and even murder. The jail employees are responsible for the care, custody, and safety of the inmates housed in the jail. This facility is self-contained. The prisoner processing section of the jail provides laundry services, meal preparation, and most medical and dental services.
Jefferson County Jail provides a Work Release program where a qualified inmate is released to go to work then returns to work at the end of the day. Work Release inmates are required to adhere to the Work Release rules and policies. Failure to follow all these rules and policies will result in disciplinary action against the inmate.
