The St. Joseph County Jail is a detention center for male and female inmates.
Major Julie Lawson is the warden of the St. Joseph County Jail, that is located in South Bend, IN. Individuals that are arrested in St. Joseph County by any of the nine police departments within the county is taken to this facility where they are able to either bond out or await charges and prosecution. At times, an inmate will be sentenced to finish their time at the St. Joseph County Jail instead of going to the Indiana Department of Corrections. This all depends on the judge’s discretion as well as the beds that are available.
