The main mission at the Delaware County Jail is to have a safe secure environment for everyone who is incarcerated, but also have a safe and secure environment for those correctional officers who are running the Delaware County Jail as well.
The Delaware County Jail wants to hold some of the utmost protection to its staff members, community, and inmates that they serve. All correctional officers within the Delaware County Jail will work together as a unit to gain the mutual respect of the inmates and their peers.
All correctional officers undergo intense training to help keep them safe during any sort of situation. The correctional officers will also learn the proper protocol on how to handle problems in some of the most professional ways they could possibly do.
All correctional officers in the Delaware County Jail will be trained on how to use some of the states of the art technology as well to ensure they are equipped with everything they could possibly need to get the job done in a timely, efficient manner.
For starters, the Delaware County Jail is composed of nearly 58 full-time correctional officers. When an individual is arrested within the Delaware County limits they will be brought into the Delaware County Jail for booking and processing.
The current building that the Delaware County Jail uses opened its doors back in 1992. The facility was designed to house up to 120 inmates at once. It was not until 1996 when the Delaware County Jail decided to use double bunk bends. Now the facility has a capacity of 221 inmates at one time. These housing beds are actually separated into different housing areas.
Inmates in the Delaware County Jail will have charges from simple theft charges or public intoxication all the way up to the murder, rape, and burglary. The Delaware County Jail is a full-service jail. It has their own meal preparation, laundry services, along with medical services within the jail walls.
Most inmates in the Delaware County Jail will only stay in the facility for a very short amount of time. But, on the other hand, there are some inmates who may end up spending their entire time from the time they got arrested to the time they have finished their sentences in the Delaware County Jail. There will be some inmates who may stay in the Delaware County Jail for a long time due to no bed space in the state prisons. On any given day the Delaware County Jail averages anywhere from 260 to 300 inmates.
