Did someone you know or care about get sentenced to prison? This can be a trying time in everyone’s life. It is highly recommended that inmates stay in contact with friends and family, but this can be challenging if friends and family aren’t sure how to do that.

If you know that the person has been sentenced in Indiana, the first thing you will want to do is figure out which prison they are located at. To do that, you can use the Indiana Department of Corrections offender locator to find out which prison someone was sentenced to. You will need to know their first and last name.

About Branchville Correctional Facility

One of the many prison’s in Indiana is Branchville Correctional Facility. It is a state prison for men located in Branchville, Indiana which is the southern edge of the state. The prison is a medium security facility with a capacity of about 1,455.

Sending Mail

All prisons in Indiana have turned to white only paper. If you send postcards, colored paper, or decorative paper, the inmate will not get the mail. You must send letters on plain white paper in blue or black ink. You will also want to label your envelope properly. Here is the proper way to label an envelope:

Visiting an Inmate

All visitors must be on the offender’s approved visitor list. In order to be on the list, you must fill out an application. You can do this in two ways:

1. Do an online application using JPay
2. Send in a printed application. To get a paper application the offender must mail you one.

Sending Money and Phone Calls

If you wish for an offender to call you, you may want to set them up with money on their commissary account to buy minutes. Or, you can set up a call account through JPay. Using this system, you can also send money to an inmate’s commissary account. JPay makes everything money wise easier.
